General Thoughts

August 11, Noon EDT – And Other Key Dates

What have I been doing for the month of July?

I’ve been working on a short story for an upcoming anthology as part of ZNB’s Kickstarter NOIR, SHATTERING THE GLASS SLIPPER, and BRAVE NEW WORLDS. The KS goes live on August 11.

I’ve been asked by the editors to contribute a short story and spent July working on draft zero. Yes, it’s a bit early. And it lead to this thread on Twitter.

All this is for naught, though, if folks don’t support the anthologies. Not only are they great books in their own right, hearkening back to the days when theme anthologies regularly appeared on bookshelves, but they’re also an important place for “young” writers like myself.

One of the Kickstarter goals is to open up slots for submission – to let newer writers get a chance to see print and get paid a decent rate for it. It’s a hard market out there – I’ve got limited time to work on my writing projects. Dedicating this year to editing Phantom Killer means writing short stories are ‘breaks’ for me. I’ve got a lot of competition. One more market, especially where my work can get showcased along side well known authors, is always welcome.

The ZNB team puts a lot of love into these anthologies. On August 11th, show a little love back.
